3 Egyptians Kidnapped in Mali Released

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday the release of three Egyptian citizens who were kidnapped in Mali earlier this November. The release was achieved through coordination with the Malian government via the Egyptian Embassy in Bamako.

1. Monitoring and Support Efforts
Ministry's Assurance: The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed its commitment to:
Continuous monitoring of the conditions of Egyptians abroad.
Providing maximum protection and support to them.
Working to remove any obstacles they may face.
Diplomatic Coordination: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty had called on his Malian counterpart, Abdullah Diop, earlier in November to exert maximum efforts to release the abductees and provide protection for Egyptians residing there, emphasizing Cairo's close monitoring and coordination with the Malian authorities.
2. Abduction Motives and Responsible Group
The Abductor: A group calling itself "Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin" (JNIM), which is linked to Al-Qaeda, had claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of the three Egyptians.
The Demand: The group demanded a ransom of five million dollars for their release.
3. Warnings to Egyptians in Mali
The Ministry renewed its call to Egyptians residing in Mali to adhere strictly to the following:
Adherence to Local Rules: Full compliance with local authorities' instructions.
Documentation: Always carry identification papers.
Precaution: Exercise caution and vigilance.
Avoid Travel: Avoid traveling or moving outside the capital Bamako at the present time for their safety.
