459 Museums Registered in Southwest China's Sichuan Province

The Cultural Heritage Bureau of Sichuan Province, Southwest China, announced that the province’s museums experienced flourishing growth during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), with museum visits becoming increasingly popular among both locals and tourists.

1. Significant Growth and High-Tier Institutions
Registration: The province registered 459 museums during this period, including 16 first-class museums.
Institutional Expansion: There has been a notable increase in comprehensive, private, and sector-specific museums, such as the new Sichuan University Museum and the Luojiaba Site Museum.
2. Vast Archaeological Collections
Scale: Sichuan ranks among the top provinces in China for artifact collections, boasting 5.59 million pieces/sets of artifacts.
National Recognition: Among these, 2,605 pieces/sets are classified as top-tier cultural relics officially reviewed and approved by the National Cultural Heritage Administration.
3. The "Second Classroom" for Visitors
Educational Impact: Museums in the province developed 900 self-designed educational projects.
Events and Exhibitions: With thousands of temporary exhibitions and over 10,000 diverse events held annually, museums have effectively become a "second classroom" for visitors.
