Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed issued a strategic statement in Arabic on Monday, coinciding with the start of Ramadan, to address the Nile water dispute and Ethiopia's quest for Red Sea access. Abiy characterized the Nile as a "shared divine gift" that should be managed through cooperation rather than monopoly. He defended Ethiopia's dam projects as a sovereign right aimed at eradicating poverty for 130 million people, insisting that his nation seeks "benefit-sharing" rather than causing harm to downstream neighbors.

Addressing the regional tensions over maritime access, Abiy described reaching the sea as a "peaceful existential necessity" driven by economic growth, not territorial expansion. He emphasized that Ethiopia views ports as hubs for regional integration and long-term partnerships, reiterating that Addis Ababa has no expansionist intentions. The message appears aimed at de-escalating tensions with Egypt, Sudan, and Somalia through a lens of regional stability.
