Al Ahly Bets on European Expertise with Jes Thorup's Appointment

Demonstrating its ambition to reclaim footballing glory, Al Ahly SC has officially announced the appointment of Danish coach Jes Thorup as the new first-team manager for two and a half years. This pivotal decision followed extensive deliberations led by club president Mahmoud El Khatib with the planning committee, sporting director, and input from the team's football director to choose the ideal fit for this critical period.

Osama Hilal, Head of Recruitment and Scouting, completed all administrative and financial procedures with precision, ensuring a smooth transition. This move comes after the dismissal of former coach José Ribeiro in August due to poor team results, marking the start of a new chapter where fans hope for renewed stability and success.

Thorup boasts an impressive managerial track record in Europe, having led top Danish clubs such as Midtjylland and Copenhagen to remarkable achievements. His most recent tenure at German club Augsburg saw him secure the club’s best-ever run of consecutive victories, highlighting his impact in competitive environments.

Currently, Emad El-Nahass is serving as the interim coach and has delivered strong results, most recently defeating Zamalek 2-1 in the Cairo Derby. With Thorup's impending leadership, expectations are high for advancing the style of play and embracing modern European football philosophies.

With this appointment, Al Ahly and its supporters look forward to a promising stage, hoping Thorup’s leadership will spark fresh triumphs and reaffirm the club’s dominance at the top of African and Arab football.
