Beijing Announces Opening of New Section of Great Wall After Restoration: Jianggjunkuan Set for Late 2026

The Beijing Municipal Cultural Heritage Bureau announced last Sunday the plan to open the Jiangjunguan Section of the Great Wall in Beijing, a historically strategic pass, to the public by the end of 2026, following the completion of restoration, reinforcement, and environmental improvement work.

Details of the New Section and Project:
Location: The Jiangjunguan Section is located in the Pinggu District of Beijing.
Historical Significance:
It is considered a historical strategic pass and a crucial gateway.
It was the first main gate on the eastern side of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall within Beijing.
Historically, it served as a pivotal route and a vital strategic location fiercely contested by military forces.
Opening Date: Scheduled to open by the end of 2026.
Restoration Work: The opening follows the completion of:
Restoration and reinforcement work.
Improvement of the surrounding environment.
Beijing's Great Wall: The Beijing section of the Great Wall, mainly built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), stretches over 500 kilometers. Pinggu District alone has more than 200 sites covering a distance of over 50 kilometers, including the Jiangjunguan Section.
