Bohai Sea Milestone: China's Largest Offshore Oil Field Sets Historic Production Record in 2025

China’s offshore energy sector reached a new pinnacle as the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced on Sunday that the Bohai Oilfield produced over 40 million tonnes of oil equivalent in 2025. This record-breaking figure solidifies Bohai's position as the nation's premier offshore energy hub, providing a vital boost to China's national energy security and high-quality economic development.

Steady Growth and Massive Reserves Currently operating more than 60 active oil and gas fields, Bohai’s cumulative crude oil production has now surpassed 600 million tonnes. The field has demonstrated remarkable resilience and efficiency, maintaining a steady 5% annual growth rate over the past five years.

Technological Innovation and Green Transition Beyond production volume, the field is a leader in localized high-tech deployment. CNOOC successfully deployed China’s first domestically developed shallow-water subsea production system. Furthermore, the field is undergoing a significant "Green Transformation," with over 80% of its platforms now connected to onshore power grids, drastically reducing the carbon footprint of its offshore operations.
