China and Uzbekistan Strengthen Strategic Partnership: Xi and Mirziyoyev Confirm Comprehensive Alliance

In a move to reinforce bilateral relations, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with his Uzbek counterpart, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Mirziyoyev's visit to China is for the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and to participate in the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

President Xi Jinping stated that China and Uzbekistan are not only friendly neighbors but also "all-weather comprehensive strategic partners in the new era." Xi stressed that China firmly supports Uzbekistan in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and developmental interests. He expressed China's readiness to work with Uzbekistan to accelerate the alignment of their development strategies, vigorously promote the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, and enhance cooperation and exchanges across various fields.
In terms of security, Xi underscored the need to make good use of the China-Uzbekistan law enforcement and security cooperation mechanism to jointly combat the "three evil forces" of terrorism, separatism, and extremism, and to collectively address security risks and challenges. He also touched upon the current complex international situation, emphasizing the importance of strengthening the SCO to protect shared interests and assist each other's development. He called on both countries to firmly uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core, practice genuine multilateralism, jointly implement the Global Governance Initiative, defend the victory of World War II, and protect the hard-won peace and tranquility.
For his part, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev affirmed that his country places great importance on its relationship with China. He expressed Uzbekistan's readiness to work with China to respect and support each other, deepen cooperation in all fields, and promote the development of the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership. Mirziyoyev congratulated China on the successful hosting of the SCO summit in Tianjin. He also confirmed Uzbekistan's full support for President Xi's Global Governance Initiative, stating that his country is ready to work with China to implement it and promote a more just and rational international order.
Following the meeting, the two presidents witnessed the exchange of several bilateral cooperation documents covering various fields, which were signed to take effect, highlighting the deep commitment of both countries to strengthening their partnership.
