In a major global development, China asserted today that its purchases of Russian oil are conducted on a legal basis and in accordance with international agreements, strongly rejecting comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump, which it labeled as unjustified "intimidation" designed to pressure Beijing into ending this strategic cooperation.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that China continues its economic and trade relations with all countries, including Russia, fully complying with international laws and relevant agreements. "Cooperation in economic, trade, and energy sectors is a key factor for global market stability, and China strives to establish constructive partnerships that foster worldwide growth," Lin emphasized.
Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant threatened new economic tariffs on China in response to its ongoing Russian oil purchases, while confirming efforts to arrange a meeting between Presidents Trump and Xi Jinping to address existing trade disputes. Besant expressed optimism about dialogue, hoping for workable solutions despite significant differences between the two nations.
China's resolute stance signals Beijing’s determination to protect its strategic interests and sends a clear message that "intimidation" policies will not alter its trade direction, particularly in the energy sector—an essential pillar for both the Chinese and global economies.
