China's Rail Freight Sees Significant Growth: 3.3% Increase in 7 Months

The Chinese rail freight sector experienced notable growth, with a 3.3% increase during the first seven months of 2025. According to the "China National Railway Group Co., Ltd.," the total volume of goods transported during this period exceeded 2.33 billion tons, a result of efforts to improve network efficiency and service quality.

Growth Across Key Sectors
This growth wasn't just a general trend; it was evident in key sectors. The average number of freight cars loaded daily rose to 183,300, marking a 4.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
Coal: The transport volume surpassed 1.19 billion tons.
Metal building materials and grains: These sectors saw remarkable growth of 13.6% and 12.7%, respectively, on a year-on-year basis.
International freight also showed strong performance, with a total of 8,526 cargo train trips operated to Central Asia, a 23.2% increase from the previous year. The China-Laos railway line transported over 3.44 million tons of cross-border goods, marking a 6.4% year-on-year increase.
The company stated that it will intensify its efforts to accelerate the development of a modern rail logistics system, deepen market-oriented reforms in rail freight transport, and enhance the quality and efficiency of its logistics services.
