Congo's leading opposition parties have called on the United Nations to shift its strategy from mediation to active pressure. During a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix, opposition leaders demanded that the UN force President Felix Tshisekedi into a comprehensive national dialogue to ease political tensions. They argued that existing international frameworks have failed to address the root causes of the conflict, while M23 rebels continue to consolidate control in the East.

The opposition also challenged the effectiveness of the MONUSCO mission, calling for urgent intervention in cities like Uvira to enforce a ceasefire. As Lacroix conducts his latest visit since February 9, skepticism is rising in Kinshasa regarding whether these high-level tours are merely symbolic. Critics warn that without a firm UN mandate to disarm rebel groups and facilitate political inclusivity, the humanitarian and security crisis in the DRC will only escalate.
