A brutal attack in the town of Guidadu, Northwest Cameroon, has claimed the lives of 14 civilians, including seven children aged between 2 and 11. Regional Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique confirmed that gunmen, identified as separatists, targeted unarmed residents, leaving 14 others wounded. President Paul Biya has reportedly ordered immediate security measures to contain the escalating violence in the restive Anglophone region.

Since 2016, the conflict between government forces and separatists seeking independence for the English-speaking minority has devastated the region. Human Rights Watch estimates that at least 6,000 civilians have been killed in the unrest. The crisis remains fueled by grievances over marginalization by the French-speaking majority government, leading to a cycle of retaliatory violence that continues to target the most vulnerable.
