Eyes on Cairo: 40 Kings and Presidents Expected at Grand Egyptian Museum Opening

All eyes are turning to Cairo in preparation for the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on November 1st. Mohamed El Homsany, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Cabinet, announced that the opening ceremony will feature an unprecedented participation of world leaders.

Scope of Participation and Preparations


  • Global Attendance: El Homsany explained that at least 40 heads of state, kings, and heads of government are expected to attend, in addition to a large number of ministers and senior officials from various countries.

  • Level of Organization: The spokesperson affirmed that the opening ceremony will be organized to the "highest standards of professionalism and organization," stressing that huge efforts are being made to ensure the event befits Egypt's status and ancient civilization.

  • Surpassing the Mummies Parade: He noted that the event's organization level "will surpass the organization of the Royal Mummies Parade, which stunned the world."

  • Logistical Preparations: Preparations are underway at full speed inside the museum and its surrounding area, including the organization of new traffic axes to facilitate movement.


Significance of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM)


  • World's Largest Archaeological Museum: The GEM is considered the largest archaeological museum in the world dedicated to ancient Egyptian civilization.

  • Location and Collection: Located near the Giza Pyramids, the museum combines architectural modernity with ancient archaeological content. It houses thousands of rare artifacts, most notably the treasures of King Tutankhamun, which will be displayed fully for the first time in one place.

  • Temporary Closure: The Ministry of Tourism had announced the temporary closure of the museum from October 15th to November 4th, 2025, as part of the final preparations for the official opening on November 1st.
