In a heartbreaking turn of events, legendary Dutch manager Dick Advocaat (78) has stepped down as head coach of Curaçao, just months before the country’s historic first-ever World Cup appearance. Advocaat cited personal reasons, stating he needs to devote his full attention to his daughter, who is battling health issues. "I have always said family comes before football," Advocaat remarked in his farewell statement.

Advocaat, who led the tiny Caribbean nation of 150,000 people to the world's biggest stage, would have become the oldest manager in World Cup history. The Curaçao Football Federation has moved quickly to appoint fellow Dutchman Fred Rutten (63) to lead the team. Curaçao is set to make its debut against Germany in Houston on June 14.
