Football Revolution: IFAB Approves New Rules to Accelerate Play and Curb Time-Wasting

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has officially approved a series of groundbreaking amendments to the Laws of the Game. These changes are primarily designed to intensify the tempo of matches and eliminate deliberate time-wasting tactics that disrupt the flow of play.

ثورة "الخمس ثوانٍ".. التعديلات الجديدة لقانون كرة القدم لإنهاء ظاهرة إضاعة الوقت

1. Throw-ins and Goal Kicks: The 5-Second Countdown

Following last year's regulations to prevent goalkeepers from excessively holding the ball, IFAB has expanded the "visual countdown" principle:

The Rule: If a referee deems a throw-in or goal kick is taking longer than necessary or is being intentionally delayed, a 5-second visual countdown will begin.

The Penalty: If the ball is not put back into play within this timeframe, a throw-in is awarded to the opposing team (for delayed throw-ins) or a corner kick is granted (in the case of a delayed goal kick).

2. Substitutions: The 10-Second Exit

To ensure substitutions do not stall the game, a strict time limit has been imposed on exiting players:

The Limit: Substituted players must leave the pitch within 10 seconds of their number appearing on the board.

The Penalty: If a player fails to exit within this window, the incoming substitute will not be allowed to enter the field until one full minute has passed after play has resumed.

3. Medical Treatment Protocol

To prevent the misuse of injury stoppages, the new protocol dictates:

Any player requiring an on-field medical assessment or whose injury caused a stoppage in play must leave the pitch.

The player is required to remain off the field for one minute after play resumes before being allowed to rejoin.

4. Expanding VAR Protocols

The board approved three key amendments allowing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to intervene in specific new scenarios:

Red Cards: Intervening in cases of a clear and obvious error regarding a second yellow card that leads to a red card.

Mistaken Identity: Correcting the identity of a player penalized with a red card offense.

Wrongful Corners: Intervening when a corner kick has been wrongly awarded.
