The English Football Association said in a statement: "Champions League winner Thomas Tuchel will be the new England manager, assisted by England national team manager Anthony Barry."

Tuchel, 51, succeeds Gareth Southgate, who held the position from 2016 to 2024, and Lee Carsley, whose interim tenure was extended until the international transfer window in November, the late Swede Sven-Goran Eriksen (2001-2006), the Italian to become the third foreign manager in the history of the Three Lions, after the late Swede Fabio Capello (2007-2012).

Tuchel made a name for himself as an attack-minded manager in the Bundesliga after taking over from Jurgen Klopp at Mainz in 2009.

When Klopp left Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2014-15 season, Tuchel took over and led the team to the DFB-Pokal title in 2017.

Tuchel signed for Paris Saint-Germain the following year, succeeding Unai Emery, and has since won back-to-back Ligue 1 titles.

In 2020, he led PSG to their first Champions League final, but they lost to Bayern Munich, and he subsequently moved to Chelsea.
