The 17th International School Games, Bahrain 2024, opened yesterday evening, Thursday, under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, and in the presence of prominent sports officials and international figures.

The opening ceremony was held at 5:30 pm at the Bahrain National Stadium and attracted thousands of participants from all over the world.
The ceremony began with the playing of the Royal Anthem and the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, while the audience watched the magnificent show of the participating countries.
Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the participants and pointed out that the Kingdom of Bahrain has provided a high level of preparations and capabilities to host the games.
He stressed that the success of the Kingdom of Bahrain in hosting the games is due to the generous patronage of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the country, and the continuous support of Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The Vice President of the International School Sports Federation, Youssef Belqasmi, also praised With the level of organization and facilities provided by Bahrain, he stressed that this international gathering was an opportunity to enhance cooperation between member states.
A distinctive feature of this year’s event is the unprecedented participation of 71 countries, the largest number ever recorded in the history of international athletics competitions between schools. Students will compete in 26 events, including athletics, swimming, football and gymnastics, as these games will form an international platform for cultural exchange and strengthening ties between young people from different countries.
The ceremony included artistic performances reflecting Bahrain’s history and culture, and concluded with a fireworks display over the Bahrain National Stadium.
The games will be held in several modern sports facilities, including Isa Sports City and Khalifa Sports City. These events come within the framework of Bahrain’s vision to enhance a comprehensive sports experience that combines competition and cultural exchange, builds bridges of communication between young people and enhances international understanding.
With these major events, Bahrain continues to provide a pioneering model in hosting major international sporting events and enhances its position as an international sports destination.
