A brutal attack on the "Kaswan Daji" market in Dimo village, Niger State, has left at least 30 people dead and several others abducted. Nigerian police confirmed on Sunday that gunmen, locally referred to as "bandits," stormed the market on motorcycles Saturday afternoon, firing indiscriminately at vendors and shoppers. The attackers looted food supplies and set market stalls ablaze before fleeing with hostages.

This massacre is part of a broader wave of violence that swept through the "Agwara" and "Borgu" districts over the weekend. The incident underscores the deteriorating security situation in central and northwest Nigeria, coming just weeks after the mass kidnapping of over 300 students from a Catholic school in the same state. Despite ongoing military operations, armed groups continue to exploit vulnerabilities in rural communities, fueling a cycle of mass killings and ransoms.
