Neutrality First: Austria Rejects All U.S. Military Overflight Requests, Joining Italy and Spain in "Airspace Revolt"

The Austrian government informed AFP on Thursday, April 2, 2026, that it has denied all U.S. requests for military overflights since the conflict in the Middle East began. Defense Ministry spokesperson Michael Bauer emphasized Austria's strict adherence to its "neutrality policy," stating that any request involving a nation in a state of war is automatically rejected.

A Logistics Nightmare:

This Austrian move follows Italy's refusal to allow combat missions to land at Sigonella Air Base and Spain's total closure of its airspace to missions targeting Iran. These restrictions are forcing the U.S. Air Force to re-route missions, significantly complicating logistics and increasing operational costs as European allies distance themselves from Trump’s offensive campaign.
