After years of dazzling achievements by Egyptian star Mohamed Salah in a Liverpool shirt, a new Egyptian name has emerged at "Anfield" today. On Wednesday, Liverpool Football Club announced the signing of young midfielder Karim Ahmed to his first professional contract with the esteemed English club. This move underscores the significant confidence the club places in his rising talent.

Who is Karim Ahmed?
Karim Ahmed, 18, was born in England to Egyptian parents and progressed through the age groups within Liverpool's renowned academy. Karim showcased immense potential last season, playing for the U18 team, where he scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists, drawing early attention to his exceptional talent.
Karim first gained notice in the 2022 season when he scored a goal in his U18 debut against Bournemouth in the FA Youth Cup. He is expected to spend his upcoming 2025-2026 season with Liverpool's U21 team, a crucial and important step in his journey towards joining the first team.
International Loyalty to Egypt and Growing Egyptian Presence
Karim Ahmed holds both British and Egyptian nationalities, giving him the option to represent either national team on the international stage. However, he has previously expressed his unequivocal preference to represent the Egyptian national team. This inclination was confirmed by his participation earlier this year in the training camp for the U17 national team (born 2006) during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Algeria.
Karim Ahmed is currently the second Egyptian player in Liverpool's academy, alongside his teammate Alvin Ayman. This growing presence of Egyptian players in one of Europe's biggest clubs is a positive indicator of the expanding Egyptian football footprint in major global leagues. Will we see a new Egyptian star emerge in the footsteps of Mohamed Salah in the near future?
