Paul Biya: The Political Charisma Returns North in a Historic Launch of His Election Campaign After Seven Years

In a landmark and thrilling scene, Cameroonian President Paul Biya inaugurated his electoral campaign from the heart of Maroua, ending a seven-year absence from the northern region. Biya addressed thousands of supporters at Yaya Dairo Stadium, reaffirming his commitment to serving Cameroonians and showcasing his unwavering resolve, despite significant political changes and the cracks in traditional northern alliances.

بول بيا: عودة الكاريزما السياسية للشمال في افتتاح ملحمي لحملته الانتخابية بعد سبع سنوات

Biya’s return is not just about kicking off a campaign—it's a symbolic comeback to the site where he has started his electoral journey for decades. This time, the race is particularly competitive, with eleven candidates including two of his former allies joining the contest. It coincides with the withdrawal of some opposition groups in favor of the seasoned politician Bello Bouba Maigari, accompanied by controversy over the fairness of the electoral laws and procedures.

The mass rally in Maroua emerged as the central event, especially since no other campaign events were announced before election day. The occasion reflects high hopes for the veteran president’s ability to retain northern loyalty amidst fractured alliances and intensifying opposition. The rally cemented Biya’s image as the "Man of Renewal" for his supporters, despite looming challenges.
