Postal Gains and AI Efficiency Bolster DHL Results Amid Global Economic Weakness

German logistics giant DHL reported a resilient performance for 2025, with operating profits rising by 3.7% to €6.1 billion, even as total revenues dipped by 1.6% to €82.9 billion. The company credited this success to aggressive cost-cutting measures and the integration of robotics and artificial intelligence to streamline operations. While global freight divisions suffered a 30% profit drop due to trade conflicts and slowing economies, the domestic German postal business (Deutsche Post) emerged as a surprise hero, with operating results jumping by over 25% following a hike in postage rates.

CEO Tobias Meyer expressed caution regarding 2026, citing significant geopolitical uncertainties, particularly the war in Iran, which threatens the company's major logistics hub and innovation center in Dubai. Despite these risks, the group maintains a steady outlook, projecting operating profits to exceed €6.2 billion in 2026. Meyer emphasized that the company's "excellent position" globally and locally, combined with optimized transport routes, provides a solid foundation to navigate the ongoing regional volatility.
