Pride and Tears in Spain: Palestine's Coach Asserts Basque Match Was One of the Best Days of His Life

Ihab Abu Jazar, the technical director of the Palestinian national team, affirmed that he experienced moments of exceptional pride during the friendly match against the Spanish region's Basque team, despite the 3-0 loss on Saturday at the San Mamés stadium.

In press statements, Abu Jazar expressed his deep pride in this historic experience:

  • Historic Achievement: He said: "I am proud to have become the coach of the first Palestinian team to play in Europe; it is one of the most beautiful days of my life."

  • Overwhelming Emotion: The coach revealed his sincere feelings, stating: "For the first time in my life, I cried during the national anthem, and it had to be here, in San Mamés."

  • Solidarity and Support: Abu Jazar praised the warm welcome and public support, adding: "The Basque people received us with affection and solidarity, which made us feel like we were in our own home."

The match was held with a large crowd of up to 50,000 spectators at the San Mamés stadium. The coach confirmed that this day "will remain etched in his memory forever."

The Palestinian national team is currently preparing for another friendly match against the Catalonia team in Spain next Tuesday. Spain is considered one of the most prominent European countries supporting the Palestinian cause, which explains the enthusiastic public reception.
