Storm of Reform at Ismaily SC: Board Suspended and Referred to Prosecution for Transparency

In a dramatic development that sent shockwaves throughout Egyptian sports circles, Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports announced on Monday, October 20, 2025, the suspension and dismissal of Ismaily Sporting Club’s entire board – one of the country’s oldest and most storied football clubs. All board members, along with the executive director, financial manager, and sports activity manager, were referred to the public prosecution for investigation into alleged financial and administrative irregularities discovered in official inspections.

This decisive measure, announced by Minister Ashraf Sobhy, came in response to findings from inspection committees revealing violations that necessitated a firm governmental response, in line with principles of transparency and accountability. The decision removes the current board until either the end of their term or the completion of investigations, whichever comes sooner. In the meantime, Ismailia’s Directorate of Youth and Sports will oversee the club’s daily operations until a new temporary committee is formed after the next general assembly.

The reform efforts went beyond mere administrative changes, including immediate coordination with Ismailia Governorate and the Suez Canal Authority, while urging private sector companies to provide financial support and sponsorship to sustain the club’s activities. This comes as the club faces a severe financial crisis, having been banned by FIFA from registering new players due to unpaid fines owed to former players.

Ministry spokesperson Mohamed El-Shazly emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring the stability of prestigious clubs and fostering an environment governed by discipline and transparency, thus safeguarding sports values and helping Ismaily regain its balance and prominence in Egyptian football. It is noteworthy that Ismaily currently sits at the bottom of the league standings, following a series of setbacks, further intensifying calls from fans for structural reform.

As passionate supporters eagerly await the results of ongoing investigations, there is widespread hope that this intervention marks the dawn of a new era of reform, integrity, and progress for Ismaily Sporting Club.
