U.S. President Donald Trump has drawn fierce criticism, including a rare public backlash from fellow Republicans, after linking the murder of Hollywood director Rob Reiner to what he called "Trump Derangement Syndrome."

1. Controversial Remarks
On his platform, Truth Social, Trump claimed that Reiner’s death was "the result of the anger he caused others through his illness... known as Trump Derangement Syndrome." He further described Reiner, a long-time vocal critic, as "deranged" and "very bad for our country." Reiner and his wife were tragically stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home on Sunday; their son, Nick Reiner, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
2. Backlash Within the GOP
The comments sparked immediate opposition from several Republican lawmakers:
Rep. Mike Lawler (NY): Called the post "wrong," stating that no one should be subject to violence and that the tragedy demands empathy.
Rep. Thomas Massie (KY): Described the remarks as "unbecoming and disrespectful."
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene: A former Trump ally, she stressed that this was a "family tragedy" and not about political enemies.
Speaker Mike Johnson: Offered condolences for the "unspeakable family tragedy" without directly naming Trump.
