Trump: US Control of Greenland is "Essential" for This Reason

U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that American control over Greenland is "essential" for the "Golden Dome" air and missile defense system he plans to establish. Writing on social media, Trump, who has vowed to take control of the Arctic island from its ally Denmark, asserted: "The United States needs Greenland for National Security purposes. It is essential for the Golden Dome System we are building."

NATO and Global Competition: Trump added that NATO would become "much stronger and more effective" if Greenland were under U.S. control, labeling anything less as "unacceptable." These remarks came just before high-level Danish and Greenlandic diplomats were set to meet at the White House with VP JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. While Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen attempted to ease U.S. concerns by announcing an increased military presence and more NATO drills in the Arctic, Trump insisted that the U.S. must lead the way to prevent Russia or China from seizing the strategic initiative.
