Zamalek beat Pyramids to reach Egyptian Super Cup final

Zamalek beat Pyramids on penalties to reach the Egyptian Super Cup final on Sunday.

Zamalek beat Pyramids 5-4 on penalties in the semi-finals of the competition hosted by the United Arab Emirates until Thursday.


The match, which was held at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi, ended in a goalless draw and the two teams resorted to penalty kicks.


Ibrahim Adel scored for Pyramids in the 14th minute of the first half, while Tunisian Seifeddine Jaziri equalized for Zamalek in the 41st minute.


Pyramids were awarded a penalty kick when Igola's friend was brought down inside the penalty area by Zamalek left-back Mahmoud Bentayek, who pulled his shirt.


After reviewing the video footage, referee Mohamed Marouf confirmed a foul on the Zamalek player and showed him a yellow card, but Ramadan Sobhi missed the kick in the final 52nd minute of the match.


After the two teams resorted to penalty kicks, former Zamalek player Mostafa Fathi missed the fifth kick and Zamalek succeeded in winning the match, but Ahmed Mostafa Zizo, Zamalek winger, scored the fifth kick and announced the victory, ensuring qualification to the final.


Zamalek, seeking to win its fifth Super Cup title, will face the winner of the other semi-final match between Al-Ahly and Ceramica Cleopatra, while Pyramids will play the loser of the other match in the third and fourth place match.
