As the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations approaches, Zimbabwean press outlets have sounded the alarm regarding the Warriors' opening clash against Egypt. Grouped with South Africa and Angola in Group B, Zimbabwe faces what local reports describe as a "herculean task" against the record-breaking Pharaohs.

A Dream Out of Reach? The Zimbabwean newspaper The Standard headlined its report: "Will the Warriors Achieve Their Goals?", stating that seeking a victory against Egypt might be an "exaggerated request" from fans. The report noted that even a draw feels like an "unachievable dream," citing the immense offensive power of the Egyptian squad and the lack of defensive resilience currently shown by the Warriors.
Historical Jinxes and Marmoush’s Confidence According to Herald Online, the historical record is heavily tilted in Egypt's favor. Zimbabwe faced Egypt in their tournament openers in 2004 and 2019, losing both matches. The report highlighted the upcoming game at Agadir Stadium as a chance to break this curse. Meanwhile, comments from Egyptian star Omar Marmoush regarding Egypt's absolute readiness to win the title have only fueled Zimbabwean concerns about the Pharaohs' psychological dominance heading into the first round.
