A Bloody Night in Lebanon: Intense Israeli Airstrikes Leave 19 Dead and Destroy Government Infrastructure

Lebanon endured one of its deadliest nights on Sunday, March 8, 2026, as Israeli warplanes launched a massive wave of airstrikes across the South and the Southern Suburbs of Beirut (Dahiyeh). The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that at least 19 people were killed and dozens injured in a series of strikes that leveled residential buildings and public facilities.

Tragedies Across Southern Villages The strikes carved a path of destruction through several Southern towns. In Teffahata (Sidon district), 5 people were killed in an initial count, while a home in the historic town of Qana was struck, killing 4 residents. In Jibal al-Butm, an airstrike hit a local cafe, resulting in 3 deaths and 4 injuries. Other towns, including Haboush, Kafr Remman, and Aytairoun, suffered extensive damage to residential neighborhoods as missiles rained down throughout the night.

Government Buildings and Beirut’s Dahiyeh Targeted The escalation extended to public infrastructure, with official reports confirming severe damage to the Government Serail in the town of Tebnine. Simultaneously, the Southern Suburbs of Beirut were rocked by violent explosions that lit up the capital’s skyline. Rescue teams are struggling to navigate the debris and reach targeted sites, as the continuous overhead presence of drones and fighter jets hampers recovery efforts and prevents an accurate final death toll.
