A Failed Assassination Attempt? Israeli Forces Target "Abu Obeida" and Hit His Family

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation "Kan" has revealed details of an assassination attempt targeting Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, whose real name is Huzaifa Kahloot. The attack, a joint operation by the Israeli army and the General Security Service "Shin Bet", aimed to eliminate a central figure in the Hamas movement. However, the outcomes of the operation remain unclear and unconfirmed.

The attack, which took place near a bakery in Gaza, resulted in the deaths of more than 10 people, according to reports from the Strip. The Israeli army used "precise munitions" and "aerial surveillance" to carry out the operation, which was launched after the Shin Bet and Military Intelligence "Aman" received "focused" intelligence. The operation was managed from a special Shin Bet operations room, underscoring the high importance of Abu Obeida within Hamas's command structure.

Despite Israeli sources, such as "Kan," suggesting the operation "appears to be successful," the final outcome has not been definitively confirmed. The significance of targeting Abu Obeida was discussed at the highest levels, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressing the matter in a Kabinett meeting, stating that the army "attacked Abu Obeida and we are awaiting the results." While Israeli security agencies believe he was "seriously wounded," this remains a matter of speculation.

The Palestinian narrative, on the other hand, presents a different and troubling picture. A Palestinian source told "Sky News Arabia" that the targeted house did not belong to Abu Obeida himself but was a home his family had rented a few days earlier, where his wife and children were present. The source reported that the bombing caused a large amount of cash to scatter and that members of the al-Qassam Brigades cordoned off the area, preventing citizens from approaching to retrieve the bodies. This raises questions about the true nature of the operation's objectives and the accuracy of the intelligence relied upon by Israel.

In the midst of the uncertainty surrounding Abu Obeida's fate, the question remains whether the objective was truly achieved, or if the Israeli narrative is merely an attempt to boost morale after a failed operation. It is worth noting that just one day before the attack, Abu Obeida had delivered a speech warning Israel that any invasion of Gaza could harm the fate of the hostages.
