In a worrying escalation of violence in eastern Syria, Deir Ezzor province witnessed a tragic incident on Thursday, October 16, 2025. A roadside bomb targeted a shuttle bus transporting oil facility guards along the road between Deir Ezzor and al-Mayadeen, killing four guards and injuring at least nine employees and civilians, some critically.

The attack—the latest in a series targeting strategic sites—comes amid ongoing security challenges in the region. According to official Syrian news agencies and statements from the Ministry of Energy, the terrorist explosion struck a ministry-operated bus, with no group yet claiming responsibility for the act.
Official sources confirmed to Agence France-Presse that five Syrian Ministry of Defense personnel were among the casualties, with at least thirteen others wounded, including bystanders caught in the blast. Once again, such events underscore the dire need for enhanced security measures and better protection for workers in oil facilities, as repeated assaults continue to threaten regional stability and civilian safety.
This painful incident calls for intensified efforts to safeguard vital energy sector employees and civilians, especially amidst persistent security threats in Deir Ezzor and across Syria.
