In a major escalation, President Donald Trump has announced a 10% tariff (rising to 25% by June) on goods from eight European allies as punishment for opposing his bid to acquire Greenland. UK PM Keir Starmer slammed the move as "completely wrong," while French President Emmanuel Macron branded it "unacceptable intimidation."

The tariffs, set to begin February 1, follow Trump’s insistence that the resource-rich island is vital for U.S. national security. As thousands took to the streets in Nuuk and Copenhagen chanting "Greenland is not for sale," the EU called for an emergency meeting in Brussels. European leaders warned that Trump's "polar obsession" is fracturing NATO, potentially benefiting Russia and China, and signaled that a trade war is imminent if Washington does not back down.
