In a daring security breach in the Russian capital, Major General Fanil Sarvarov, Head of the Operational Training Department of the Russian Armed Forces, was assassinated Monday in a sophisticated car bombing. The Russian Investigative Committee confirmed that an explosive device planted beneath Sarvarov's vehicle detonated in a parking lot on Yasenevaya Street, southern Moscow, inflicting fatal injuries. According to the state news agency TASS, preliminary evidence strongly points toward the involvement of Ukrainian Intelligence Services, marking another high-profile strike against the Kremlin’s military elite.

This assassination adds to a growing list of targeted killings deep within Russian territory since the onset of the conflict in February 2022. From the 2022 killing of Darya Dugina to the recent deaths of Generals Yaroslav Moskalik and Igor Kirillov, the pattern suggests a systematic campaign to dismantle Russia’s operational leadership. While Moscow has opened a criminal investigation into "murder" and "explosives trafficking," the incident underscores the vulnerability of high-ranking officials despite heightened security. The Kremlin now faces internal pressure to respond to what it labels as "state-sponsored terrorism" orchestrated by Kyiv.
