A groundbreaking report by The Atlantic suggests that the U.S. military operation to capture Nicolas Maduro was facilitated by significant assistance from within the Venezuelan Armed Forces. According to Pentagon advisors, the mission's success relied on "deliberate restraint" or active cooperation from key military figures in Caracas. This internal "betrayal" allowed U.S. forces to bypass Maduro's security detail and transport him to New York to face drug trafficking charges.

Meanwhile, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the reopening of Caribbean airspace, which had been paralyzed since the strike. As Maduro arrived at the DEA offices in New York—oddly greeting onlookers with a "Happy New Year"—Acting President Delcy Rodríguez issued a defiant televised address. She demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, vowing to protect Venezuela’s vast oil reserves from President Trump’s stated intention to "manage" the nation's natural resources.
