Boulos: Trump Made Peace in Sudan a Priority

Masad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for African and Arab Affairs, affirmed that Donald Trump has made achieving peace in Sudan a priority.

مسعد بولس: ترامب جعل السلام في السودان أولوية.. وخطة واشنطن لم يوافق عليها الجيش ولا الدعم السريع

1. Washington's Peace Plan and Truce

  • Strong Plan: Boulos explained that Washington presented a peace plan with a "strong formulation," but it was not accepted by either the Sudanese Army (SAF) or the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

  • Hope for Acceptance: Boulos expressed hope that the two conflicting parties would accept the "comprehensive text" that was presented.

  • Humanitarian Priority: Boulos noted that the situation in Sudan cannot tolerate linking the humanitarian issue to military or tactical matters, stressing the need for both parties to agree to a truce and move to subsequent phases.

2. Conflicting Stances of Sudanese Parties

Boulos's statements coincided with conflicting positions from the warring parties:

  • RSF Truce: The Rapid Support Forces announced a unilateral, 3-month humanitarian truce on Monday.

  • SAF Rejection: The RSF's move came hours after the Sudanese Army Commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, announced his rejection of an international truce proposal.

  • Rejection of the Quartet: Al-Burhan also rejected the mediation of the Quartet Group, describing their plan as the "worst paper presented" because it "eliminates the existence of the Armed Forces, demands the dissolution of all security apparatuses, and keeps the rebellious militia in its areas."

3. Washington's Stance on Al-Burhan's Statements

Boulos declined to comment on the statements made by General Al-Burhan, stating that they were based on "incorrect facts."
