CNN Exclusive: Inside Mojtaba Khamenei’s Injuries—Broken Foot and Facial Wounds from Day One Strikes

A source familiar with the matter revealed to CNN the specific nature of the injuries sustained by Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, during the initial wave of U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on February 28. According to the source, Khamenei suffered a broken foot, a severe bruise around his left eye, and various minor lacerations across his face. These physical impairments explain his total public absence since succeeding his assassinated father.

Media Deception and "AI-Generated" Propaganda The CNN report highlights that Iranian state media and propaganda networks have gone to great lengths to mask the Leader's condition. Lacking current footage, they have relied heavily on archival clips and AI-generated images of Mojtaba Khamenei to project an image of stability. While Yusuf Pezeshkian, son of the Iranian President, told state media that the Leader is "fine," his admission that he had "heard of the injury" further validates the reports of a successful strike on the leadership.

Failed Assassination Attempt This disclosure aligns with previous statements made by an Israeli source to CNN, claiming that Mojtaba was the target of a precise assassination attempt during the war's opening week. Although some injuries are described as minor, the broken foot and facial trauma have effectively sidelined the 56-year-old Leader. This forced reclusiveness raises critical questions about the operational effectiveness of Iran’s high command as it navigates a direct military confrontation with the U.S. and Israel.
