A late-night explosion in southern Moscow claimed the lives of two traffic police officers and a suspect they were attempting to detain, the Russian Investigative Committee reported Wednesday. The blast occurred in the "Yeletskaya" district when an improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated as the officers approached the suspect near their patrol vehicle. Authorities have launched a criminal probe into the "attempted murder" of law enforcement and "explosives trafficking."

The incident is particularly significant due to its proximity to Monday’s assassination of General Vanil Sarvarov, Head of Operational Training for the Russian General Staff, who was killed by a car bomb. This latest escalation follows a pattern of high-profile attacks against Russian military leaders and public figures since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine, several of which have been claimed by Kyiv.
