Western intelligence reports, led by the Wall Street Journal, have revealed an unprecedented escalation in Israel's military strategy against Iran. As the war enters its third week, the focus has shifted to "Hunting the Leaders" within their most secure hideouts in Tehran. This "Decapitation Strategy" aims to paralyze the state’s decision-making apparatus by systematically eliminating the political and military elite, effectively breaking the regime from within.

The Fallen Giants: From Khamenei to Larijani
The campaign opened with a devastating strike on February 28, 2026, which claimed the lives of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, his Defense Minister, Chief of Staff, and the top brass of the IRGC. The momentum continued this week with the confirmed deaths of Ali Larijani, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council and the presumed architect of the regime’s post-Khamenei survival, and Gholamreza Soleimani, the commander of the Basij paramilitary forces.
Intelligence Penetration and Security Chaos
According to analysts, Israel's success relies heavily on deep intelligence breaches and real-time data provided by Iranian insiders. By striking primary command centers and then tracking officials as they flee to "safe houses," Israel has turned Tehran into a death trap for its own leaders. This has triggered a total collapse in the IRGC's internal trust and communication, leaving field units fragmented and vulnerable to continuous drone strikes at checkpoints and temporary headquarters.
