Denmark Defies Trump: We Will Increase Troops in Greenland

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated on Wednesday that his country would continue to strengthen its military presence in Greenland while enhancing coordination within NATO. This move follows sharp U.S. criticism accusing Copenhagen of neglecting the Arctic territory's defense. "We will continue to bolster our military presence, but we will also focus on increasing maneuvers and the Alliance's footprint in the Arctic," Poulsen said hours before a high-stakes White House meeting involving Danish, Greenlandic, and U.S. officials.

Strategic Stakes: The announcement comes as President Donald Trump reiterates that Greenland is "vital for National Security" and essential for his proposed "Golden Dome" missile defense system. Trump warned that if the U.S. does not secure the island, Russia or China will—a scenario he vowed to prevent. Despite Denmark's deployment of advanced troops and equipment to Nuuk, the Trump administration maintains that "anything less than U.S. control is unacceptable."
