Egyptian President Calls Before Congressional Delegation to Stop War in Gaza and Lebanon

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed today, Saturday, the need for an immediate and widespread ceasefire, exchange of hostages, and provision of humanitarian aid to end the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon and end the worsening humanitarian crisis.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy, stated that President El-Sisi received a delegation from the Republican and Democratic parties in the US House of Representatives headed by Congressman Tom Cole, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel Aati.

The meeting focused on regional conditions, as the Congressional delegation listened with interest to the Egyptian President's vision on how to restore peace and security in the region and avoid the escalation of the conflict and its transformation into a regional war. In this context, President Sisi stressed the need to put an end to the ongoing war in Gaza and Lebanon, and to move forward strongly on the path of a ceasefire and exchange of hostages, and to work immediately and intensively to implement sufficient humanitarian aid to end the worsening humanitarian crisis, referring to the joint efforts made by Egypt, Qatar and the United States over the past few years.

In the context of the open dialogue on the two-state solution between President Sisi and members of the US Congress, the Egyptian President stressed that establishing an independent Palestinian state in a way that achieves the interests of all peoples of the region and paves the way for stability, development and prosperity is the way to reduce tension in the region and promote a real and sustainable path to peace and security, and they stressed that this is the way forward. In this context, the overall situation in the region, the crises it is witnessing and the efforts made by Egypt to resolve and contain them were reviewed.

The US Congress members also affirmed their country's pride in the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States, and praised the role of Egypt and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in the ongoing efforts to establish peace and stability, and the United States' support for Egypt and for regional and international security and peace. He added that he stressed the United States' keenness to continue consultation and joint coordination on a number of issues.
