El-Aati: Egypt Actively Pursuing Urgent Humanitarian Truce in Sudan

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr El-Aati affirmed on Wednesday his country's full support for the Sudanese people and its commitment to continuing efforts aimed at achieving stability and peace in Sudan.

Truce Efforts and Situation in Al-Fasher


  • Bilateral Meeting: This came during El-Aati's reception of his Sudanese counterpart, Moezeldin Salem. The ministers discussed the latest developments in Sudan, particularly the humanitarian and security situation in Al-Fasher, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khalaf.

  • Active Pursuit of Ceasefire: The spokesperson stated that El-Aati highlighted Egypt's "active engagement" in efforts seeking a ceasefire and the establishment of a comprehensive humanitarian truce to allow aid access and alleviate civilian suffering.

  • Egyptian Stance: El-Aati stressed Egypt's adherence to Sudan's unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions, affirming that Sudan's security and stability are an integral part of regional security and stability.


Bilateral Cooperation and Water Security


  • Expanding Cooperation: The ministers reviewed cooperation aspects in trade, investment, and infrastructure repair. Minister El-Aati affirmed Egypt's readiness to expand cooperation in the electricity, water, health, and education sectors to support the needs of the Sudanese people.

  • Water Security File: The meeting addressed water security, emphasizing the unified position of both countries as Nile downstream states, and stressing the necessity of full adherence to international law in the Eastern Nile basin and the complete rejection of unilateral actions on the Nile River.

  • Continuous Coordination: The meeting concluded with an emphasis on both sides' keenness to continue close coordination and consultation, enhancing the bonds of historical "brotherhood" between Egypt and Sudan and supporting the aspirations of both peoples for security, development, and stability.
