Tonight, the 8th edition of the El Gouna Film Festival kicks off (Thursday, October 16, 2025), once again asserting its status as a premier international forum celebrating art and humanity under the theme "Cinema for Humanity." Running until October 24, the festival features a stellar lineup that includes two-time Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency, who will engage in several key events alongside major partners such as the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development.

This year’s edition marks unprecedented growth for the “CineGouna Platform,” with more than 35 diverse activities spanning workshops, roundtables, and new initiatives to support emerging talents and producers—including the launch of the “Take Two” initiative in partnership with the European Union. Additionally, an extended three-year collaboration with ESLSCA University has been announced, offering rich opportunities for students to learn, network, and engage with the cinematic world.
The festival will also honor actress Menna Shalaby with the Creative Achievement Award, while screening around 70 films from across the globe. The program saw record participation with over 290 production projects submitted; 20 were selected for official involvement. The CineGouna Market hosts delegations from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iraq, India, China, and more, and spotlights the latest innovations in cinematographic technology from leading global companies, fostering sustainable partnerships and an evolving professional marketplace.
Coinciding with the 35th anniversary of El Gouna city, the event’s founders underlined that the festival has become a global landmark, uniting film professionals and guests in a welcoming coastal atmosphere while maintaining a steadfast commitment to humanitarian causes, using culture and art as powerful platforms for dialogue and community support.
Festival leaders emphasized that culture and creativity are key drivers of change and development. Strategic partnerships between the United Nations, El Gouna Film Festival, and the Egyptian government form a dynamic platform for advancing global narratives and creative progress through cinematic storytelling, positioning the festival as a bridge to a more humane and reconciled future.
