Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, faced a "major" Russian drone attack on Sunday morning, causing significant damage to the main government building and marking a notable escalation in the conflict. In a post on Telegram, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko confirmed that the roof and upper floors of the building were directly hit, adding that rescue teams were on site to extinguish the resulting fire.

The attack resulted in civilian casualties, with Ukrainian officials reporting two people killed and 11 injured. The human tragedy was compounded by the death of a one-year-old child, whose body was recovered from the rubble, as confirmed by Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Administration. Kyiv's Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, also noted that fragments of the Russian drones struck residential buildings in the Sviatoshynskyi and Darnytskyi districts, creating panic among residents.
In a separate development, Robert Provdy, the commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Forces Unit, announced on Telegram that Ukrainian forces had targeted the "Druzhba" (Friendship) oil pipeline in Russia's Bryansk region. Provdy confirmed that the pipeline suffered "extensive fire damage." This pipeline is of strategic importance to Russia, used for exporting oil to Hungary and Slovakia, indicating that Ukraine's attacks are now increasingly targeting critical Russian energy infrastructure.
These events unfold amidst ongoing international efforts to find a resolution to the three-and-a-half-year-long war. Recently, around 20 nations, including France and the UK, pledged to join a "reassurance force" to monitor any potential peace agreement. However, these efforts face a significant hurdle, as Russian President Vladimir Putin has firmly rejected the presence of any Western forces in Ukraine, stating they would be considered "legitimate targets" for his military. Separately, efforts by President Donald Trump to end the war have not yielded any tangible results.
