EU-Egypt Summit: Sisi Calls for Major European Role in Gaza Reconstruction Conference, Emphasizes Migration and Libya

During his speech at the European Union-Egypt Summit, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi expressed his aspiration for an active and major European role in the Gaza reconstruction conference following the cessation of the conflict.

Sisi indicated that he exchanged views with EU member states on the regional crises in the Middle East. He also called for the "necessity of all foreign forces leaving Libya to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty." Regarding the migration file, Sisi affirmed that Egypt "plays a pivotal role in preventing irregular migration."

The joint statement issued by the EU-Egypt Summit underscored several key points:
Migration File: The statement stressed the need for cooperation on migration issues, appreciating Egypt's role in hosting millions of refugees. Both sides affirmed their commitment to developing legal and organized migration pathways, enhancing border management, combating migrant smuggling and human trafficking, and ensuring dignified voluntary return.
Gaza Agreement: The statement welcomed the agreement on the First Phase of the Comprehensive Plan for ending the Gaza conflict proposed by President Donald Trump. It also welcomed the outcomes of the recent Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit.
Two-State Solution: The statement urged all parties to continue working on implementing the plan, while welcoming Egyptian mediation efforts. It affirmed a firm commitment to a permanent and sustainable peace based on the Two-State Solution, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the New York Declaration.
