Gargash: UAE Did Not Transfer Any Weapons to Sudan Warring Parties

Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the UAE, categorically denied that the country has provided any military support to the warring parties in Sudan since the start of the civil war. He made the comments during an interview with the American news network CNN.

1. Denial of Military Support and Confirmation of Humanitarian Aid


  • Denial of Arms Transfer: Gargash confirmed: "We have not transferred any weapons to the warring parties in Sudan since the beginning of the civil war."

  • Clarifying Flights: He mentioned 162 flights from the UAE transporting humanitarian aid to Sudan, noting that skeptics often assume any plane leaving the UAE is carrying "suspicious things," ignoring the volume of humanitarian support.

  • Humanitarian Stature: He pointed out that the UAE is the second-largest contributor of humanitarian aid to Sudan after the United States and wishes to increase this support.


2. UAE's Stance on the Conflict and Sudan's Future


  • Clear Position: Gargash described the UAE's position as "very clear," calling for an "unconditional ceasefire" and a humanitarian truce leading to a permanent ceasefire, stressing that "this must happen now."

  • Governance Solution: He expressed a desire to "see a unified Sudan" transitioning to a "civilian transitional government."

  • Rejection of Warring Factions: He asserted that the warring parties "do not deserve a role" in Sudan's future.


3. UAE Concerns Regarding the Muslim Brotherhood


  • Security Threat: Gargash considered the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan a "significant regional security threat."

  • Brotherhood Control: He claimed that there are leadership factions within the Sudanese Armed Forces led by Brotherhood figures, and that the Foreign Ministry aligned with the SAF is "completely controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood."

  • Economic Background: He denied that the UAE's interests in Sudan are economic, noting that Sudanese gold represents only 1% of the UAE's gold imports.

  • Bilateral Relations: He affirmed that the UAE's relationship with the Sudanese people is "excellent" and historical, downplaying the criticism from "a handful of activists."
