Gaza Rising from the Rubble: Global Willpower Heralds Reconstruction and Hope

Gaza has witnessed unparalleled devastation following recent hostilities, with estimates indicating over 55 million tons of rubble lining its streets and neighborhoods. According to representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), rebuilding Gaza will require a massive international effort and an estimated cost of around $70 billion. Despite the magnitude of destruction, encouraging signs are emerging regarding the willingness of multiple countries—including the United States, Canada, Arab, and European states—to contribute to Gaza’s reconstruction.

Officials stress that full recovery will likely take decades as swathes of Gaza have been reduced to barren land and about 83% of the buildings—especially in Gaza City, the epicenter of the fiercest clashes—have been damaged. The local health authorities report a death toll exceeding 68,000. With the ceasefire now implemented, many Palestinians have returned to the ruins of their homes, hoping for a new beginning.

The UNDP has already removed approximately 81,000 tons of debris, marking an initial step toward Gaza’s rebuilding. European partners, Canada, and the US have expressed, through official statements, that ongoing discussions and support initiatives are underway. These developments suggest steadily advancing international efforts to reconstruct Gaza and restore hope to its beleaguered residents.

As cooperation between international and local actors strengthens, there is an urgent need for comprehensive and innovative reconstruction plans tailored to Gaza’s reality, giving new life and hope to its people.
