"Historical Breakthrough": Israeli Envoy Praises "Excellent" Talks with Lebanon as Beirut Seeks to End Hezbollah’s Grip

A landmark tri-lateral meeting took place at the U.S. State Department on April 14, 2026, marking the first high-level contact between Israel and Lebanon since 1993. Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter described the discussions as "excellent," noting that the Lebanese government signaled a clear desire to no longer be "occupied" by Hezbollah. The talks, attended by Secretary Marco Rubio, focused on long-term border demarcation and restoring Lebanon's monopoly on weapons.

Lebanese Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Moawad called for the full implementation of the November 2024 cessation of hostilities.
