Iran Suspends Negotiations with Washington, Citing "Unreasonable Demands"

The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, announced today, Wednesday, that his country will not resume negotiations with the United States as long as Washington insists on presenting "unreasonable demands," according to the Iranian Tasnim news agency.

The agency quoted Araqchi as saying: "The talks underway with the United States, as well as the New York negotiations, have been suspended and have not progressed due to the exaggerated American demands."

Araqchi mentioned that Iran has held contacts with the US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, through intermediaries, affirming that Iran "is always committed to diplomacy and peaceful solutions."

Tehran and Washington previously engaged in five rounds of indirect nuclear negotiations, which were followed by a 12-day aerial escalation in June, during which Israeli and US forces bombed Iranian nuclear sites.

Last month, an informed Iranian source told Reuters that "several messages were sent to Washington via mediators in recent weeks to resume talks, but the Americans did not respond." Earlier this month, Iranian Government Spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani noted that US officials failed to attend a meeting proposed by Iran in New York during the UN General Assembly.

It is worth noting that the United States, its European allies, and Israel accuse Tehran of using its nuclear program as a cover for developing weapons capabilities, while Iran insists its program is solely for peaceful purposes.
