Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, that Israel intends to keep its military forces inside Lebanese territory even after current operations end. The plan involves establishing a permanent security buffer south of the Litani River, with the IDF maintaining full control over the entire region.

Demolition & Displacement:
Katz stated that approximately 600,000 displaced Lebanese residents will be barred from returning to their homes until northern Israel's security is guaranteed. The strategy includes the systematic destruction of houses in border villages to eliminate future threats. Katz framed the move as a strategic necessity to "sever Lebanon from the Iranian sphere" and neutralize Hezbollah's influence.
