US President Joe Biden has repeatedly called for not targeting Iranian nuclear and oil facilities in response to the Israeli attack on Iran in early October.
Washington says this is to prevent the conflict from spreading in the Middle East.
On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that “Israel’s response [to Iran] must not lead to further escalation.”
US Vice President Kamala Harris said she was “informed that Israel attacked Iranian military targets” and that she would “closely monitor developments and provide intelligence.”
According to Fox News, the White House was informed shortly before Israel launched the attack.
The White House said Israel's attack on Iranian military targets was "self-defense" in response to a missile attack by Tehran a few weeks ago.
