Israel tells Washington it will respond 'strongly' to Hezbollah

Israeli Defense Minister Joav Galant told his US counterpart Lloyd Austin that Israel would respond forcefully to Hezbollah after it targeted an Israeli military base, killing four soldiers.

The minister's office said in a statement that Galant spoke with Austin overnight and "highlighted the seriousness of the attack and the strong response that will be carried out against Hezbollah."


"This is a difficult event, and the IDF will investigate it and quickly learn the lessons," Galant said in the video.


Herzi Halevi, the IDF's chief of staff, visited the Golani base, which was attacked by a Hezbollah drone in Lebanon.


"We were at war, and the attack on the training base was serious, and the consequences were painful, and we acted correctly in treating and evacuating the wounded and victims," ​​Halevi said.


"We continue to fight and train for the next battle," he added.


"In a qualitative and complex operation, Hezbollah's missile forces fired dozens of missiles at various targets in the Nahariya and Acre areas to seize Israeli air defense systems, while at the same time the air force launched a swarm of various drones that were used for the first time towards various areas of Acre and Haifa," Hezbollah said in a statement. The statement added: "Qualitative drones penetrated the Israeli air defense radar without detection, reached targets in the elite (Golani) Brigade training camp in the Binyamina area south of Haifa, and exploded in a room where dozens of Israeli enemy officers and soldiers were preparing to participate in the attack on Lebanon, killing and wounding dozens.


On Sunday, Galant vowed to prevent Hezbollah from returning to its combat position along the Lebanese-Israeli border even after the Jewish state's army withdraws from the area.


"Even if the army calculates its forces, it will not allow Hezbollah terrorists to return to these areas," the Israeli defense minister said while inspecting an observation post overlooking southern Lebanon.
